Jefferson County: Simple and Ancient Art of Bonsai

Those who admire the Japanese art of bonsai will have a chance to watch an expert at work when the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation presents “The Simple and Ancient Art of Bonsai” on May 8 at 3 pm. Retired Navy Hospital Corpsman and bonsai artist Chris Bates will talk about the basic bonsai tools and pot styles as well as demonstrate wiring and pruning techniques on a tree in progress. Come to be inspired by examples from his collection while learning about this ancient Japanese art form that mimics nature on a small scale.
